Book Review: Lady in the Mist by Laurie Alice Eakes

Tabitha Eckles is no ordinary midwife. The generations of women in her family before her had all been married by this time, but no such prospect lies ahead for Tabitha. Nevertheless, the community trusts her training, good judgement and reputation despite the fact that it is very unusual to have a midwife who has never given birth herself. Her reputation is called into question though when a patient dies under mysterious circumstances and Tabitha is the only one who may know why, yet her profession calls for secrecy. Adding to the mystery is her strange relationship with the new British servant in town. During a time when the townsmen are being taken by Britain to use in the navy, the town is filled with suspicions about the newcomer.

I enjoyed the intrigue and mystery in this love story by Eakes. I also liked the historical addition of press-ganging and the effects it had in the families whose loved ones were taken.  It was fun to read the banter between the servants. All in all, a pretty entertaining book.

Gotta Love 'Em

We had a pretty fun valentines day around here! Here are some pics of the day's events:

We started by opening a package from grandma! Lots of candy, stickers and cars!

Not too messy considering the huge chocolate heart he just ate!

Eóin asked me to take a pic of his messy hands

But said I didn't need to wash them - he could just lick them :)

Next, we made valentines cards for Daddy

Eóin drew the heart and wrote the word all by himself!

Aidan found the markers and went to town!

When Daddy got home we had a romantic candlelight dinner for four. We had heart shaped meatloaf and pink mashed potatoes :-)

Everybody got a card by their plate with some of the reasons I love them written on it.
Here's what they said (I'll just put a few of Jonathans - he had lots :-)

Jonathan:
He is gorgeous!
He has a kind heart.
He makes me laugh.
He shares his food with me :)
He works hard to take care of us.

Eóin:
He also makes me laugh a lot.
He is lots of fun - great imagination.
He can be a very kind big brother.
He does a great job using his words to encourage people.

Aidan:
He is so goofy.
He sings all the time - he lives in his own personal musical :)
He is always excited about life.
He gives great hugs!

I Love our family!

Thank You Granny :)

We thought our latest package was lost for good when it took two weeks to get here, but it arrived today and we are very happy to have some yummy chocolate here :-) Thanks Granny Caffrey! Sorry my voice sounds like I'm screaming. I have to take vids on my phone til I get a charger for my camera. Guess I need to hold the phone a bit further away from me next time :-)

Sledding Fun

We took the kids sledding today. It started off with quite a bit of crying. First, when we had to get all bundled up which Aidan HATES. Secondly, when we had to walk through the every deep snow and they kept falling down. Thirdly, when Eóin went down on the sled - he did NOT enjoy it.

Finally, we discovered that if they slid down on their bums everyone was happy. So it ended well :) Here are some videos. You can't hear Eóin screaming in the first one, but you can hear me laughing at his screaming - he he.
